Canyon Sculpture

Fall 2012

- As an introduction to hand tools during my first semester of architecture school, we were given the assignment to carve what we visioned through the grain patterns in a piece of poplar. The board I was given created an image of a canyon in my mind and after some simple cuts, I created the basis of a canyon shape. Using various gouge chisels, I created surfaces resembling that of the Grand Canyon, giving the cliffsides a rough touch and the bed of the river an eroded feel.
